Mills says Council knows parents and students are anxious and upset and he wants assure the community that Council is monitoring developments as closely as possible given the information that is available.
He says at this point, school is handling it as an internal matter.
There haven’t been many specific details released to the public and he understands that school administration is conducting ongoing investigations.
He’s Council is going to stay in close contact with the school and those elected to the Upper Grand District School Board.
Mills went on to say that regardless of what the outcome of the investigations are, there is no place for racism or violence of any kind in our schools.
He says these “institutions must be safe, inclusive and positive places for all students and staff and we all have a part to play in ensuring that.”
Shelburne Council is offering its contributions to the efforts of the UGDSB while working alongside other stakeholders and municipal partners from communities whose students also attend Centre Dufferin District High School.
