While the Tornado Warning has ended for areas like Barrie, Collingwood, Orillia, and Lagoon City, reports of this afternoon’s heavy damage are still coming in.
South Simcoe Police are responding to heavy property damage and downed trees reports in northeast Innisfil.
Barrie Police too is responding to the same types of reports in southeast Barrie. (see pics by Mike Roy)
It looks like a tornado struck a neighborhood in the area of Mapleview Drive and Yonge street.
Mike Roy was at the scene…
“There was at least a dozen or more houses that had been hit by the tornado – a few severely,” he said, “the power was out in the area. There was lots of police and ambulance. I’m not sure if anyone was hurt.”
The area has been cordoned off by police and authorities have not indicated yet whether people have been injured.
Today’s damage is not far from where a tornado struck in 1985 in Barrie killing several people and causing millions in damage.
At 7:30 pm tonight the City of Barrie including Mayor Jeff Lehman is holding a media briefing to provide the most current information related to the damage caused by the reported tornado in South Barrie.
The Premier has also released a statement via Twitter. (below)
Severe Thunderstorm Watches remain in effect for our area.

We're checking this neighbourhood in northeast #Innisfil to ensure residents are okay. At this point, it appears there is localized property damage but early indications are no injuries. SSPS members are heading to assist @BarriePolice. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted. pic.twitter.com/zHhitDTKbu
