The Town of Innisfil has created a permanent way to remember and honour one of two police officers killed in the line of duty.
The South Innisfil Arena has been re-named the Morgan Russell Memorial Arena and Community Centre at a ceremony Sunday night.
South Simcoe Police Constable Morgan Russell was killed in October, alongside Constable Devon Northrup – while responding to a call.
Russell grew up in the community and enjoyed playing hockey at the arena.
His wife Marisa told the crowd that Morgan’s police career and hockey were great sources of pride for him.
Chief John Van Dyke says the re-naming of this arena is a symbol of their collective commitment to never forget the sacrifice he made, and that the arena will be a source of comfort and inspiration for everyone.
