Hazel McCallion is being remembered as a strong and dedicated force.
She died yesterday at the age of 101, and she would have turned 102 on February 14th.
McCallion served as the longest serving mayor of Mississauga, at 36 years, before she retired in 2014.
Retirement from politics didn’t stop “Hurricane Hazel” as she held several positions in different sectors.
McCallion was the first chancellor of Sheridan College, and she also was appointed to the board of the Greater Toronto Airport Authority.
She was active in her work in recent weeks with her position on the Greenbelt Council advisory group.
Ontario has lost an incredible woman who embodied community service and was an inspiration to many over the years.
