The Town of Caledon is trying to improve sustainability and livability in its new communities.
They are creating the first Green Development Standards program that includes climate-friendly design standards that all new development – residential, commercial and industrial – must comply with.
The standards will help to minimize energy usage, and greenhouse gas emissions, while protecting the natural environment.
Caledon’s population expected to triple by 2051, and officials say these standards will be a critical tool to ensure growth does not jeopardize the Town’s ability to address climate change
The GDS program is expected to be in place by summer 2023.
Residents are encouraged to ask questions and submit their climate-friendly ideas by visiting https://haveyoursaycaledon.ca/green-development-standard
