Construction on the new Markdale Hospital is halfway to completion.
Grey County Council received an update on the progress of the structure recently from Grey Bruce Health Services, who say lower level steel studs are up, duct work and the roof is complete, with siding to come next.
Officials say most of the completion is expected by the summer of 2023, and then it’s likely to open to patients by the end of 2023, or early 2024.
The hospital, which is going to be 68,000 square feet will have:
- A 24/7 Emergency Room
- Seven beds
- Three exam rooms and a treatment room, as well as a room for palliative care
- Rooms for procedures such as endoscopy/colonoscopy, ultrasound and X-Ray and Ambulatory Care.
Grey Bruce Health Services Vice President and CFO John Kurvink says the goal is to one day also have a CT scanner in the Markdale hospital.
Eventually, furniture, fixtures and equipment will be purchased through community fundraising.
