The Town of Orangeville is setting up a plan to recover tourism following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials have started the process of developing a five year Tourism Strategy and Action Plan incorporating COVID-19 recovering measures to figure out the next steps for the long and short-term.
Tourism has been identified as a sector of focus for future growth in the region and because of the impact of the pandemic on Orangeville’s residents and businesses, it will play a key role in long term economic recovery.
The project is being led by a consulting firm and the three phases will be rolled out in the next eight months, with oversight by Town Staff.
Business owners and local tourism professionals will be consulted on their perspectives, while the community will get to have input in July.
The Town’s Manager of Economic Development and Culture Ruth Phillips says “We had already planned to launch this project in the pre-pandemic era, when Orangeville’s local economy was thriving and we were exploring opportunities to further develop the tourism sector with a sustainable, inclusive approach. Now, though circumstances have changed due to COVID-19, domestic tourism is expected to grow throughout Ontario. We’re committed to ensuring Orangeville is well-prepared for the shift, and the opportunities it may bring.”
