The Ontario Pork Congress elected committee members at the recent annual general meeting.

Chris Crump is the incoming president.

Crump says planning is well underway for the 2018 Pork Congress which runs June 20th and 21st at Stratford's Festival Inn.

Officials say the carcass competition will be expanded, and the Bacon Maker Classic will be there.

Taste the Best will be expanded and Crump says there are several more ideas for next year.

Attendance at the event this year was up compared to previous years, with predictions they will attract even greater numbers next year.

The Illinois government is slashing its Agriculture Department budget.

Governor Bruce Rauner plans to cut $21 million, part of an approximate $200-million plan to decrease spending in the state.

Illinois is $1.7 billion in debt, according to the Office of Management and Budget.

So legislators are taking action to balance the budget.

An anaylsis shows some of the cuts will come from the Soil and Water Conservation Districts.

That funding will drop from $5.92 million in 2017 to $5.75 million in 2018.
