The Alberta and Saskatchewan wheat commissions are forming a coalition, along with the Manitoba Wheat and Barley Growers Association.

The Canadian Wheat Research Coalition is a federal, not-for-profit corporation.

It's goal is to help with long-term investments aimed at improving profitability and competitiveness for western Canadian wheat farmers.

The coalition will be administered by a host commission, which will rotate every three years.

The three wheat commissions will serve as founding members on the farmer-led board of directors.

A spokesman for the conservation group Ducks Unlimited says everyone in Saskatchewan is a little to blame for recent water pollution problems.

Michael Champion is head of industry and government relations for the group.

It works to preserve wetlands for hunters.

Champion says it's not just agricultural drainage but the cities and the towns and how they treat their effluent.

He was responding to a recent warning by the Water Security Agency and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health, which was advising people to avoid contact with surface water with blue-green algae blooms in it.
