French's Canada has donated $20,000 to The Sharing Place Food Bank in Orillia

The company made the donation in honour of Brian Fernandez, who earlier this year posted to Facebook about the new French's ketchup -- noting how they use tomatoes from Leamington at the former Heinz manufacturing plant.

Fernandez says The Sharing Place Food Bank was his charity of choice...

The Sharing Place says 2016 has been a TOUGH year, with food and monetary donations down 10 to 15 per cent, while food bank usage has increased 20 per cent.

French's made donations of more than $133,000 to Food Banks Canada, matching the total number of shares on Fernandez's Facebook post.

And the Canadian Federation of Agriculture has submitted recommendations as part of the federal government's consultation on the Canadian Transportation Agency review.

Federation officials are calling on Transport Minister Marc Garneau to commit to meeting in person with western farm leaders to hear their concerns.

They say farmers, not grain companies who pay costs to transport grain by rail.

President Ron Bonnett says they are grateful for the discussions that have been had with Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay, but the final decisions coming out of the C-T-A review will rest with Garneau.
