The All Canadian winners in the Holstein Journal have been announced.

Among the animals being recognized is a calf shown by Greg Burgess of Mildmay.

It was named Reserve All Canadian 4-H Junior Yearling after a remarkable show record of first at the TD 4-H Dairy Classic at the Royal WInter Fair, and a first 4-H at the Bruce Grey Holstein Show in Walkerton.

Taking the Reserve All Canadian 4-H Intermediate honours, was a calf bred by Corey and Kim Rae of Unique Holsteins of Mount Forest.

It had a first 4-H and Champion 4-H at the Niagara Region show.

And Loyalyn Goldwyn June, bred by Rob and Alice Bumstead of Owen Sound, just missed the Reserve All Canadian Mature cow honours by one vote.

The Ontario Livestock Alliance has a new name.

It's now simply the Livestock Alliance.

And it has welcomed a new member -- the Canadian Meat Goat Association.

The Alliance was created in 2010 between Veal Farmers of Ontario and Ontario Goat.

It has since added administrative functions for the Canadian Veal Association and the Centre of Excellence for Goat Research and Innovation.

All of the organizations maintain independent governance -- but they share staff and office space in Guelph.

The U-S Agriculture Department has unveiled new rules for food stamps.

It would force retailers who accept food stamps to stock a wider variety of healthy foods or face the loss of business as consumers shop elsewhere.

The proposed rules are designed to ensure that the more than 46 million Americans who use food stamps have better access to healthy foods.
