The OPP confirm about 90 dairy cows died yesterday morning in a blaze at a barn in Elgin County.

Damage is estimated at one-and-a-half million dollars.

There have been several other fatal barn fires in the province.

More than 50 horses died in two barn fires in Mount Forest and near Guelph last month.

More than 2 thousand pigs died in mid-January in a barn fire near Parkhill.

About 500 goats and 30 cows were also killed in a barn fire in mid-January and a barn full of chickens died after a fire ripped through a farm in Listowel.

Another hot topic with farmers these days is the impact of climate change.

Grey Ag Services is holding a special workshop tomorrow on the subject.

John Anderson -- a retired researcher with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans -- will review the most recent scientific information on global warming.

And he will talk about how it impacts agricultural practices.

The two hour session begins at 1:30 tomorrow at the Markdale office.

Tickets are 10 dollars.
