The Ontario government has introduced an insurance program for bees.

The new Bee Mortality Production Insurance Plan will be administered by Agricorp -- and it will begin November 1st.

Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal says the plan promotes best management practices and allows farmers to manage their risk more effectively.

The government says it provides the province's beekeepers with the same financial support beekeepers in other provinces are getting.

Ontario Beekeepers President Tibor Szabo says the plan recognizes the importance of healthy bees to the livelihood of individual beekeepers and the sustainability of the beekeeping industry.

Ten Ontario families will be honoured this weekend at the International Plowing Match in Finch, in eastern Ontario.

They will receive the Farm Family award from the Bank of Montreal and the Ontario Plowmen's Association.

One of the families is the Terpstra family from Birch Lawn Farms in Atwood.

The award recognizes the outstanding contributions made by farmers to the industry and their communities.

The Great Northern Exhibition is taking place near Collingwood this weekend.

It is one of the largest fairs in Ontario -- with farm exhibits, a tractor and truck pull, lawn tractor races and a demolition derty.

The Ripley Fall Fair also begins today and continues tomorrow.

There will be a parade, a car and truck show, farm exhibits, crafts and tractor pull.

The Sydenham Fall Fair -- one of the last school fairs -- was held yesterday.
