New President of Holstein Canada

A farmer from Lindsay is the new President of Holstein Canada.

John Buckley was elected at the Holstein Canada Board of Directors meeting.

The board also has new vice presidents -- Robert Chabot of Quebec is the first vice and the second vice is Orville Schmidt from Alberta.

The non-profit organization represents more than 10 thousand members.

It works to help improve the breed of Holstein cattle across Canada. 


Good news for Canadian wheat producers.

Colombia has eased some restrictions on Canadian wheat imports.

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz says the change could lead to increased shipments.

Colombia is Canada's 7th largest market for wheat -- and exports last year valued at 348 million dollars.

The South American country had imposed some phytosanitary import requirements for Canadian wheat.


Farmers across Grey County will meet today for Agricultural Outreach Day.

Grey Agricultural Services in Markdale is hosting an information session and luncheon for farm organizations.

It will focus on the programs offered by Grey County that impact and serve local farmers and agri-food producers.


And Jennie-O Turkey Store says it will lay off 233 employees at its processing plant in Minnesota because of bird flu outbreaks that have cut its turkey supply.

Jennie-O Turkey is the second largest turkey processor in the U-S.
