GFO Wants Study on Member Crops

The Grain Farmers of Ontario is looking for someone to do a detailed study of key market opportunities for its members' crops.

C-E-O Barry Senft says they want to get a comprehensive understanding of the current utilization of Ontario barley, corn, oats, soybeans and wheat.

He argues the report would help better position those crops -- and it would include expanding existing and premium markets.

The U-S Department of Agriculture has lowered its forecasts for total U-S meat production this year and for 2016.

Officials say the reason is slower marketings of fed cattle and reduced cow slaughter.

Pork production forecasts for both years are unchanged.
