New deal struck on Blueberries

Canada and China have agreed to sustained market access for fresh British Columbia blueberries.

Grey county Agricultural services is celebrating 15 years by having an Open House.

The milestone is being marked tomorrow from 1-3pm.

The Open House is at Grey Ag Services on Toronto Street in Markdale.

Officials will unveil new equipment that has been installed in 2 meeting rooms and there will be demonstrations at 1:30.

Trillium Roots supported Grey Ag Services with a cheque for 5 thousand dollars to assist in the purchase of interactive projection equipment.

Now, organizations will be able to invite speakers from remote locations without mileage expenses.

Canada and China have agreed to sustained market access for fresh British Columbia blueberries.
   
Chinese inspectors are expected to visit Canada this summer to carry out a pre-shipment inspection and to authorize the first shipments of blueberries to China.
   
Once fully implemented, the Canadian blueberry industry estimates new access to this important market to be worth 65 million dollars annually.
   
British Columbia is the largest highbush blueberry-producing region in the world, with production more than doubling in the last decade.
