A former Burlington woman gets award at Convocation.

Grey Bruce Farmers week prize goes to local Vet.

A 1 thousand prize has been awarded to a Burlington area woman who now works at a mixed animal veterinary practice in Paisley.

Dr. Victoria Styczynski (Stick-zyn-ski) was given the prize by the Grey Bruce Farmers week committee.

Grey Bruce Farmers’ Week has been a main stay for the agricultural industry in Grey and Bruce Counties since 1966.

The Prize is in conjunction with the University of Guelph, and the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC), which recognizes new veterinarians entering food animal practices serving producers in Grey and Bruce Counties.

It recognizes the individual's past accomplishments, but also encourages their future contributions, and commitment to our rural communities.

The blaster in charge of the demolition of the Parrish and Heimbecker elevator in Saskatoon says the job went perfectly over the weekend.

Tristan Rakowski says elevators have to be rolled because their internal structure is too rigid to allow them to collapse inward like other buildings.

The concrete structure stood since 1910, but closed last year when the company moved operations outside the city.

Firefighters blocked off storm drains during the detonation to prevent any potential runoff from entering them, and then stood by just in case something went wrong.
