Ontario government is promoting three goals to increase knowledge about local food.
This is Local Food Week -- and the provincial government is promoting three goals to increase knowledge about local food.
One is to increase the number of people in Ontario who know how to prepare local food meals for family and friends.
The province also wants more people to know what local foods are available, and know how and where to obtain local foods.
Agriculture and Food Minister Jeff Leal says it's part of the Local Food Act.
He says they will also develop stats and performance measures to track and report the progress towards their goals.
Producer levies paid by Canadian pork producers will be earmarked to fund a National Swine Health initiative.
The focus of the initiative will be to bring key players together across Canada to limit the spread of viruses like PED.
The Canadian Pork Council says the levies will also help increase communication and monitor surveillance activities.
One of Canada's largest hotel companies is building a number of so-called bee hotels in cities across Canada.
Fairmont Hotels and Resorts says its efforts will give the population of the busy pollinators a space to nest.
One of the specially built structures is coming to a Fairmont property in Ottawa
And others are coming to public spaces in Toronto.
