Chair of Dairy Farmers Steps Down

Bill Emmott says he step down as Chair and board member of Ontario.

There will soon be a new Chair of the Dairy Farmers of Ontario.

Bill Emmott of Brantford has announced he will be stepping down as Chair as well as a board member after 16 years.
 
Albert Fledderus  of the Niagara region will take the spot on the board.

Porcine epidemic diarrhea has been found in a farrow-to-finish operation in Middlesex County.

Industry officials had warned the virus would be more likely to return when cooler weather returned.

The total number of confirmed P-E-D sites in Ontario is 64.

The company says so far this year its net loss is 190.8 million dollars -- up about 97 million from last year.

Maple Leaf says the company's hog production operations experienced additional costs in the third quarter related to preventing the P-E-D virus.

The olive harvest in Spain, Portugal, Italy and France has been decimated by high spring temperatures, a cool summer and abundant rain.

Those conditions have also helped the proliferation of the olive fly and olive moth -- which has hurt the crop.
