Royal Winter Fair Opens

Winners from Goderich, Pine River, Blyth and Markdale as the Royal Winter Fair opens.

The judges at the Royal Winter Fair are recognizing our local cheese.

Blyth Farm Cheese won the top 3 finishes in the flavoured cheese section.

Pine River Co-op of Ripley was 5th with their cheese fudge -- and it also finished third in the interior ripened speciality cheese class.
In the Limousin beef classes -- Rail Line Farms of Goderich won the Get of Sire, Junior Get of Sire and Breeders Herd.

Rail Line also showed the Junior Heifer Calf Champion and the first prize bull calf born in 2014.

Brent Black of Goderich showed the winning junior yearling heifer and won the Junior Champion banner.

Aiden Dennis of Markdale also finished first in the Junior showmanship class for Juniors under 13.

Keith and Marg Dennis finished third in the Stallion class, born in 2014.


The corn harvest in Ontario is now where many growers would like to be.

Greg Stewart of the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture says only about 10 to 20 per cent of the crop is off so far.

High moisture levels will also be a concern with this year's corn crop.
