This is National Organic Week in Canada.

Thousands of health food stores, farmers markets and grocery-chains will be using the opportunity to showcase organic products and educate consumers.

The Canada Organic Trade Association says more than 20 million Canadians choose organic products every week.

Sales last year totalled 3 and a half billion dollars.


Another PED case has been found in Canada.

Manitoba Agriculture Food and Rural Development has confirmed a fourth hog farm in the province has tested positive for porcine epidemic diarrhea.

This brings the total number of confirmed PED cases across the country to 62 infected farms since the virus first appeared in Canada earlier this year.


The U-S Department of Agriculture is reporting another record low month for fed cattle marketings.

It hit 1.69 million in August -- that is 10 per cent below 2013 -- and the lowest number for August since the series began in 1996.

Total number of cattle and calves on feed for slaughter in the U-S on September 1st was 9.8 million head -- that's one per cent lower than a year ago.

And the number of placements in U-S feedlots in August was down 3 per cent from last year at 1.72 million head.
