Tax Credit Not Fast Enough

By Manny Paiva

Conservatives want Liberal government to move faster with the new tax credit program for farmers.

Length: 1:08

The agriculture critic for the Ontario Conservatives wants the Liberal government to move faster with the new tax credit program.

Toby Barrett says the tax credit was finally proclaimed on August 2nd -- but many food banks and farmers don't know about it.

The program allows farmers to get a tax credit for donating to food banks.

Agriculture Minister Jeff Leal admits there are delays -- but he says any food donations made by farmers on or after January 1st of this year are eligible for the credit.

The Great Northern Exhibition is now underway in Collingwood.

About 12 hundred students went through the fair yesterday to learn about farming and where their food comes from.

There are several fall fairs this weekend -- in Wiarton, Lucknow, Neustadt and Stratford.

All of the fairs include animal shows, tractor and horse pulls and even cooking demonstrations.
