A Successful Trade Mission for Farmers

Federal Ag Minister Gerry Ritz is claiming victory after wrapping up a trade mission to China.

Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz is claiming victory after wrapping up a trade mission to China.

Ritz says the Chinese have agreed to buy Canadian live cattle, beef, swine and livestock feed.

And he says it's worth 300 million dollars.

Since 2006, Canadian food exports to China have increased to 5.6 billion dollars.

Hodglynn Holstein of Kincardine has two second place ribbons to show for their participation at the Maxville Spring Holstein Show.

It was held in Eastern Ontario on the weekend, with exhibitors from Ontario, Quebec and the United States.

Hodglynn Holstein had a second place finish with Brookvilla Goldyn Brook in the Senior 3 year old class.

It was later named reserve intermediate champion.

MS Rollinview Gold Delilah also finished second in the Junior 3 year old class.

And buyers are picking up milk again at Chilliwack Cattle Sales.

That is the B-C farm where sales were suspended after workers were caught on video beating -- and even punching -- the cows.

The B-C Dairy Association says the farm has installed cameras to provide 24 hour surveillance.

Eight workers at the farm have been fired and the S-P-C-A is recommending charges be laid.
