Beef Recall Expanded

By

The beef has been sold in Sobeys, Foodland, Superstore, Loblaws and Metro.

Length:

That beef recall we told you about earlier this week has expanded.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is concerned about possible E. coli contamination from ground beef products from X-L Foods of Alberta.

And now the recall has expanding across the country.

The beef has been sold in Sobeys, Foodland, Superstore, Loblaws and Metro stores in Ontario as well as under the Kirkland brand in Costco stores.

There have been no reports of illness -- but officials want you to check your freezer to make sure you don't have any of the beef.

The Canadian Federation of Agriculture says the federal and provincial Growing Forward 2 plan is going to end up costing the governments more in the long term.

President Ron Bonnett says the framework cuts AgriStability funding in half and reduces the contribution levels for Agri Invest accounts.

Bonnett says the federation supports the innovation, research and market development focus of the framework.

But he is disappointed the money cut from business risk management programs is being used to help the federal government balance its budget.

President Ron Bonnett feels the new program is going to end up costing the governments more in the long term.
