Miller Named to Ag Commitee

Larry Miller named to standing commitee on agriculture and agri-food.

Local MP Larry Miller has been named to the standing committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food.

The Bruce Grey Owen Sound Conservative has been working on the agriculture file for the past seven years.

Miller was first appointed to the committee in 2004 and says he looks forward to continuing to work with industry stakeholders.

Larry Miller has been chair of the committee since 2008.

Huron Bruce MP Ben Lobb has also been appointed to the standing commitee.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada says India could be looking to import more pulse crops.

Jaspinder Komal told a conference in Saskatoon that Indian farmers are looking to grow more cash crops like garden vegetables and rice.

He notes the pulses that take longer to grow can be imported from Canada.

U-S food prices are expected to stay high through 2012 because a wet spring will likely cut the size of this fall's corn harvest.

The United States will have a surplus of just 695 million bushels of corn in 2012 -- far less than the 900 million estimated last month.

The Agriculture Department says rain delayed planting schedules and will likely diminish crops by harvest time in September.

The company has more than doubled its production capacity of grain augers for the global market.

The company unveiled its new equipment at the Western Canada Farm Progress Show yesterday.
