Farm Tradition Begins

Midwestern Ontario Agri Fair begins today.

It's become a tradition in Midwestern Ontario.

Today marks the opening of the 28th annual Agri Fair at the Chesley Community Centre.

The two day event begins at 12 Noon and continues until 9 PM today and tomorrow.

This year, there are over 100 exhibitors at the show -- showcasing the latest in farm technology and equipment as well as products and services.

Hundreds of farmers are expected to attend.

The Chesley Kinsmen are hosting the show -- and admission is 4 dollars for adults, 3 for those 12 and pre-schoolers are free.

The proceeds will be used to improve Kinsmen projects.

Analysts say the price for steak and hamburger at grocery stores is going up.

Cattle prices soared last week as the April live contract closed at an all-time high of 121 dollars and 55 cents per hundred weight.

Sandy Russell -- an analyst with Spring Creek Land and Cattle Consulting -- says retail prices will have to rise.

He does not believe beef consumption will drop however -- because after a long winter -- Canadians are ready to fire up the barbecue.
