President of OFA happy with agriculture aspect of Ontario budget.
More positives than negatives for agriculture in last week's provincial budget.
That's the view of Ontario Federation of Agriculture President Betty Jean Crews.
She was glad to see the Liberals recognize agriculture as a key sector of the economy that needs to grow.....
Crews is pleased with the announcement of a two billion dollar contingency fund that she hopes agriculture can tap into for things such as broadband coverage in rural areas or setting up new risk management programs.
Crews says another positive to come from the budget was the retention of some on going multi year programs that could have been cut -- but weren't.
The Profitable Pasture Conference is being held today at the Elmwood Community Centre.
The Ontario Forage Council is hosting the meeting.
There will be a number of guest speakers to give farmers the most economical and practical ways ot utilize pasture systems.
