Hotel Owners Learn About Human Trafficking Signs

Caledon | by Jill Young
Local hotel owners and staff learn the signs of human trafficking from police and victims services.

Authorities in Caledon have been educating some local hotel owners about how to be more aware about human trafficking.

Caledon OPP partnered with Dufferin Victim Services to provide some education outreach services to some local hotels and inns.

Police say there is an increasing number of victims being recruited for the purposes of sexual and labour exploitation.

The traffickers are recruiting their victims from small towns and taking them to various other areas.

They spoke to local hotel staff at Bolton's Hampton Inn, about red flags or signs that trafficking may be taking place, and how to report the crime.

Staff at hotels should call the OPP (at 1-888-310-1122) if they suspect something suspicious or call Caledon/Dufferin Victim Services 24/7 (at 905-951-3838).
