Premier Doug Ford has made his first public comments about Jim Wilson since the Simcoe- Grey MPP resigned as economic development minister and from the PC caucus.
Ford said he did not immediately come forward regarding the allegation of inappropriate sexual behaviour against Wilson in an effort to "protect his team" including the staffer who made the allegation.
The premier said he was made aware of the allegations against Wilson on Friday and then asked him to resign.
Originally a statement from the premier's office said Wilson was resigning because of addiction issues.
Also on Friday, a top advisor to Ford resigned, and while the premier's office at the time said it would not discuss personnel matters, there were numerous reports Andrew Kimber also left because of inappropriate sexual behavour.
Ford said today that the accusers have not gone forward to police but he confirms there is a third party investigation.
Ford said Jim Wilson has gone to rehab in the wake of the incident, and said addiction is a real issue.
