Midhurst | by Ken Hashizume
Atkinson with 3-run home run, Smith with 4 hits and 3 RBIs, Garces strikes out 8 over 6 innings.

The Barrie Baycats took advantage of a depleted Guelph Royals team.
Kevin Atkinson provided the offense with a 3-run home run while Frank Garces allowed 2 hits over six innings striking out 8 as the Baycats hammered the Royals 13-1 on Thursday night.
The Royals were without regulars Justin Interisano, Jon Waltenbury, and Sean Reilly, and had to use three pitchers in the starting line up -- Yonder Yambatis in left field, Ben Reid as the designated hitter, and Dan Marquez at second base.
Yambatis' fielding error off the bat of Kyle DeGrace in the first inning allowed Starlin Rodriquez to score, DeGrace would later come home on a single by Atkinson for a 2-0 Baycats lead.
Barrie would score four in the fourth capped off by Atkinson's home run for a 6-0 lead.
It was 10-0 for the Baycats (15-8)  in the 7th when Guelph got on the board on an RBI double by Liam Hicks off reliever Brad Bissell driving in Ethan Mohan who tripled to start the inning.
Tim Smith contributed with 4 hits (his first hits as a Baycat), driving in 3, and scoring a run.
Jorge De La Cruz took the loss for the Royals (6-15) giving up 10 runs (7 earned) on 11 hits, walking 4, and striking out 4.
The next game for the Baycats is this Sunday night when they host the Burlington Herd at the Barrie Community Sports Complex.
